Deborah Gonzalez, District Attorney, Western Judicial Circuit, GA

District Attorney Deborah Gonzalez is an attorney, mother, and advocate for social justice.    She is a published author, most recently of “Managing Online Risks: Apps, Mobile, and Social Media Security.” Gonzalez is a former GA State Representative for HD117 (Athens, GA).  Her election proved historic as it made her the first female DA in her circuit, the first minority DA in her circuit, the first Latina DA in the history of GA, and the first female Puerto Rican DA in the country.  She knows representation makes a difference when it comes to the way black, brown and the poor are treated by the criminal legal system – whether they are victims or defendants.  She was given the nickname of “cross-examiner” during her tenure at the Capitol and continues to get into good trouble – the latest: suing and winning against her state’s Governor to protect the voting rights of over 150K people in the Governor’s hometown.  It is in the name of her grandsons that Deborah is committed to end the school to prison pipeline and as a woman, knows the importance of listening to victims to curtail sexual abuse and trafficking.  She is a proven champion and leader of the people.
