Eric Richey is the Whatcom County Prosecutor. He was elected in 2018 after serving Whatcom County as a deputy prosecutor for 25 years. Eric has 24 attorneys under him in both criminal and civil divisions and his office serves approximately 230,000 Whatcom County residents. Since the election, Eric has worked hard for criminal justice reform regarding incarceration reduction and racial equity. Eric proudly launched a Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program in 2020 which aims to provide people services instead of incarceration. In 2021, he played a significant role in forming a Racial Equity Commission which will be a government watchdog regarding racial equity. Eric supports open dialog with all people involved in and affected by the criminal justice system and he is continually looking for better ways to protect the community.
